Fees Explained

SBU and/or Other SUNY Home Campus Billable Expenses:

Application Fee: This is a non-refundable fee required to process and maintain the application. This fee is paid to SBU on your SBU Study Abroad Portal.

Tuition, College and Academic Fees: SUNY students pay tuition and fees to their home campus; please consult your Study Abroad Office for applicable fees as these fees can vary within the SUNY system. SBU and Non-SUNY students pay tuition and fees to SBU through SBU's SOLAR student account. Graduate students pay the appropriate home campus and academic program rate.
Program Fee: This fee includes the
tuition differential at Korea University and also includes the SUNY International Health Insurance fee. This is billed on your SBU SOLAR student account.
Commitment Fee:
This fee covers pre-departure, post return and alumni events. Once you are accepted into your program you will have 3 business days from the date of your acceptance to commit to your participation in the program. Once you commit, the $200 commitment fee will appear on your SBU Solar student account under the New Student Folder section. The $200 commitment fee is non-refundable and does NOT offset against other fees.

Estimated Insurance: All students participating in any Stony Brook University Study Abroad program are required to have the SUNY approved International Health Insurance. This fee is included on the Program Fee.

Other Projected Expenses: These expenses, listed below, can NOT be reimbursed by SBU under any circumstance.

Flight: Students are responsible for booking their own travel. Please reach out to your IAP Coordinator prior to making any travel arrangements. We strongly advise students to purchase airline tickets that allow for changes in the dates of travel or cancellation of the flight.

Books and Academic Supplies: This fee can vary based on course selection and may include laboratory and course fees payable to the host institution.

Housing: Housing fees are paid directly to the partner university or a third party. Cost will vary depending on the housing options selected. A deposit may be required.

Meals: This fee will vary based upon country, currency exchange rates and on whether the partner university offers a meal plan or whether the student purchases meals on their own.

Personal Expenses: This expense will vary based on personal spending habits, lifestyle, cost of living in the program location(s), and the currency exchange rate. This may include local transportation, extra meals, personal travel, and other personal items.

Estimated Miscellaneous: Passport: A passport is required for ALL international travel. This cost could vary based on country of citizenship; Visa/Residence Permit: Students are responsible for obtaining their own visa. This cost could vary based on the country of citizenship. Students may be required to pay additional fees upon arrival to their host country, depending on the immigration registration process; Host Country/Host University Health Insurance: Some countries or partner universities require students to purchase additional health insurance in addition to what they already have. Speak with your SBU Study Abroad Coordinator for specific information regarding this. Immunizations and Vaccinations may be needed. Please check with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the most updated information.

The SBU IAP Financial Policies are outlined in the ‘Study Abroad Financial Acknowledgement’ Signature Document, signed in the pre-decision phase of application.

All costs are estimates and subject to change without notice. SUNY tuition and fees are subject to change without notice by action of the SUNY Board of Trustees.

All program costs must be paid prior to departure or by the Stony Brook University term payment deadline, whichever date is first. Failure to pay by this deadline will result in late fees. Students participating through other SUNY and/or partner university programs are also responsible to comply with those institutional deadlines.
