Billable Items:
Application Fee: This is a non-refundable fee required to process and maintain the application. This fee is paid to SBU on your SBU Study Abroad Portal. 

Commitment/Administrative Fee: This fee covers pre-departure, post return and alumni events. Once you are accepted into your program you will have 3 business days from the date of your acceptance to commit to your participation in the program. Once you commit, the $200 Commitment/Administrative fee will appear on your SBU Solar student account under the New Student Folder section. The $200 commitment fee is non-refundable and does NOT offset against other fees.  

Tuition, College and Academic Fees: SUNY students pay tuition and fees to their home campus; please consult your Study Abroad Office for applicable fees as these fees can vary within the SUNY system. SBU and Non-SUNY students pay tuition and fees to SBU through SBU's SOLAR student account. Graduate students pay the appropriate home campus or academic program rate. The rates above reflect the cost for taking 4 credits. Students taking a different number of credits will pay tuition and fees accordingly. 

Program Fee: This fee will be billed to your SBU SOLAR account and includes the cost for the mandatory international health insurance. 

Other Projected Expenses:
Flight: Students are responsible for booking their own travel. Your IAP Coordinator will provide the group flight information, if applicable. 
Books and Academic Supplies: This fee can vary based on course selection. 
Personal Expenses: This expense will vary based on meals and beverages, personal spending habits, lifestyle, and the currency exchange rate. This may include extra meals, personal travel and other personal items. 
The estimated average monthly expenses for meals and beverages are €160-200 (depending on eating out or cooking). The average price for lunch in the student canteen is €3.50. As for your daily coursework there is a student canteen located nearby the building where you will have your classes. You can purchase a mensa card, which can be charged for your daily meals.  More information on the cost of living in Germany as well as an overview of prices for food, clothing, cultural events, etc. are provided by the DAAD and the Deutsches Studierendenwerk:
Partner University Fees: Includes course materials, housing in Tubingen, cultural and social activities, public transportation ticket within Tubingen, and a welcome/farewell reception. 

Miscellaneous:
Passport: a passport is required for all international travel. This cost could vary based on country of citizenship and whether a passport application is processed through routine or expedited processing. 
Visa/Residence Permit: Students are responsible for obtaining their own visa, if required. This cost could vary based on the country of citizenship. Students may be required to pay additional fees upon arrival to their host country, depending on the immigration registration process. 
Immunizations and Vaccinations may be needed. Please check with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the most updated information.

The SBU IAP Financial Policies are outlined in the ‘Study Abroad Financial Acknowledgement’ Signature Document, signed in the pre-decision phase of application. Please read the Study Abroad Acknowledgement document carefully before committing to your program as we do not guarantee any refunds.
